If your baby has been diagnosed with impetigo, eczema or psoriasis, be sure to check the ingredient list of any baby wipes that you are using. A common chemical called methylisothiazolinone, which is often listed under the trade name of Kathon or as CMIT could be the culprit. Methylisothiazolinone is a chemical that is often used to limit bacteria growth in water containing solutions. The down side is that it has Neurotoxic effects and often creates an allergic reaction when placed in contact with skin. Additionally, in the last few years many baby wipe producers have greatly increased the amounts of methylisothiazolinone found in their products.
