If you have high cholesterol, chances are very good that you have been prescribed or will soon be prescribed a drug such as Simvastatin, Lovastatin, Pravastatin or Zocor. These are a few examples of drugs that belong to a group called statins. They were developed to lower cholesterol levels, but what you may not have been told is that these are powerful drugs with many possible side effects. True informed consent (a procedure that EVERY physician and health care provider is REQUIRED to perform) mandates that prior to starting ANY prescription or treatment, the patient is to be made aware of all potential risks (i.e. side effects) involved. Please take a moment to review this well written article by MIT Senior Scientist Dr. Stephanie Seneff. In this article Dr. Seneff provides links to 13 different sites that have well referenced information about the dangers of Statin Drugs.
